Wednesday was the second of the Seahawks’ three OTAs that are open to the media, and the ever entertaining Richard Sherman was one of those placed at the podium. Here’s some of the things the All-Pro cornerback had to say:

The Legion of Boom secondary was not able to get a lot offseason work together last year because Sherman and safety Earl Thomas were recovering from injuries. This year is different, with the entire secondary being accounted for at OTAs, and it’s helped with both continuity and depth:

“In past years we’d have a little more turnover rate than we had last year, so we’re very excited about that. The guys who have been here, who have put in the work, who have grown with the program, they’re starting to flourish and we’re excited to see that. So in terms of depth we’re doing a great job. We have tremendous depth and we’re happy and content with any number of guys playing with the starting lineup.”

Last week Seahawks coach Pete Carroll raved about the flexibility in the secondary, with so many players capable of filling multiple roles. Sherman spoke about that flexibility:

“It stands out [to the coaches], but it stands out also with the coaching staff and their trust with the guys, because they have to be willing to be flexible in order for us to be flexible. So I think it also says something with how they’ve grown to trust us and our abilities and our mentalities, to trust us in those positions. So I think it’s both sides growing.”

One player who helps that flexibility is Brandon Browner. The Seahawks brought Browner back into the fold this offseason, but the former Seattle cornerback is being used differently this time around, spending a lot of time at safety. Sherman’s take on Browner’s new role:

“It makes a ton of sense. He’s a physical player, he gets in where he fits in, he understands his responsibilities, he’s a very strong man, he does a great job in the interior in both the passing game and the run fits, and his understanding of the run fits is pivotal for being able to do that.”

Finally, Sherman and his fiancee had their second child this offseason, so how is being a parent of two affecting him?

“Three hours of sleep last night. Two kids of your own, one’s kicking you in the back of the head, the other one’s screaming. It’s one-on-one coverage. They say I don’t play man-to-man, c’mon now. Let them say I don’t play man-to-man now.”
