PEORIA, Ariz. — Seattle Mariners hitters combined for 11 hits and four runs, but fell short against the Oakland Athletics, 7-4, on Wednesday evening at Peoria Stadium. A pair of home runs accounted for all of the Mariners scoring.
Domingo Santana connected for his fourth home run of the spring, a solo blast in the third inning. Entering play, Santana was tied for the Cactus League lead with three home runs. In the bottom of the fourth, Braden Bishop belted a three-run home run onto the berm in left-center field, his second homer of the spring.
In his second official Cactus League start of the spring, Wade LeBlanc pitched 3 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. Matt Festa and Brandon Brennan pitched back-to-back scoreless frames in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. Right-handed pitcher Tyler Danish struck out three over 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
The Mariners return to Cactus League play Thursday against the Cincinnati Reds at Goodyear Ballpark. Left-handed pitcher Yusei Kikuchi is scheduled to start for the Mariners against Reds right-hander Luis Castillo.
