Saturday scrimmage report

Washington had its second scrimmage of the spring on this sunny Saturday afternoon. About 1,600 people (including quite a few recruits) turned out to watch, which is a couple hundred less than last Saturday.

Linebacker E.J. Savannah didn’t participate in the scrimmage after suffering a shoulder injury early in practice. Steve Sarkisian said the injury wasn’t serious, however, and Savannah should be back for practice next week.

And speaking of linebackers, Mason Foster had himself a heck of a day, coming up with an interception, two sacks, three tackles for loss, and a blocked punt on special teams. Sarkisian praised Foster for his play not just today but this week, saying he and defensive end Darrion Jones have been the most improved players of late.

On a whole, however, the offense seemed to have the better day, in particular the starting offense. That group put up 24 points on a 26-yard Jake Locker touchdown pass to Devin Aguilar, a Demitrius Bronson seven-yard run, a Chris Polk one-yard run, and a 29-yard Erik Folk field goal.

Locker looked good, completing 10 of 16 passes. He was picked by Foster, but that looked to be a miscue between him and Aguilar more than a bad throw. Locker’s best throw of the day might have been a 30-ish-yard bullet over the middle that was dropped by Chris Izbicki.

Here are stats from the scrimmage:

Passing

Jake Locker:

-10-16 for 133 yards, TD, one INT

-Went 5-5 for 54 yards on one drive that was capped by a touchdown run by Demitrius Bronson
