Opponent: Prince George Cougars

When: 7:30 p.m.

Where: Prince George Multiplex, Prince George, British Columbia

Radio: KRKO (1380 AM)

Tonight’s game is the first of back-to-back contests at Prince George. The Cougars are the team that spoiled the Silvertips’ home opener, beating Everett 3-1 on Oct. 4.

Although the Cougars (20-23-6-0) have been in last place in the B.C. Division for most of the season, they have surged of late and are challenging for a playoff spot, trailing Kootenay by just two points and Vancouver by three.

Prince George is led offensively by 19-year-old forward Jonathan Filewich. Filewich, a third-round pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2003 NHL Draft, leads the team in points (46) and goals (25). Twenty-year-old forward Chris Falloon is second on the team in points (44) and first in assists (23). The monstrous Dustin Byfuglien, an 18-year-old defenseman who conservatively registers at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds, marshals the back line.

Since the Cougars traded No. 1 goalie Todd Ford to Vancouver for another 19-year-old netminder, Jordan McLaughlin, at the trade deadline, rookie Justin Pogge has logged most of the time in net for the Cougars. The 17-year-old Pogge is 10-8-2 with a 2.88 goals-against-average and a .899 save percentage.
