One week after bringing back rookie running back Justin Forsett, the Seattle Seahawks appear ready to hand him the punt-return duties.
The Seahawks released return man Michael Bumpus on Tuesday, then promoted Forsett from the practice squad. While no official announcement was made regarding return duties, it appears likely that Forsett will handle that role.
Bumpus took over as Seattle’s punt returner after Nate Burleson suffered a season-ending injury in the opener. He averaged 9.4 yards per return on seven attempts.
Forsett was at training camp with the Seahawks but was cut the day after the season opener, with hopes of putting him on the practice squad. Indianapolis signed Forsett to its active roster, and he served as the team’s punt and kickoff return man.
The Colts cut Forsett last week, and Seattle signed him to its practice squad.
Bumpus, a Washington State University product, is a likely candidate to return to the practice squad unless another team signs him to its active roster.
