Seahawks-Giants pregame notes and inactives: Chancellor and Carpenter out

As expected, the Seahawks will have a healthier team this week than last, but are still missing a few key players, including safety Kam Chancellor (groin) and left guard James Carpenter (ankle). With Chancellor missing a second straight game, Jeron Johnson will make his first career start in his fourth year with the Seahawks. Johnson also missed last week’s game because of a concussion. Alvin Bailey will start at guard a week after starting for Russell Okung at left tackle.

Both Okung and center Max Unger highlight a list of players returning from injuries, a list that also includes cornerbacks Byron Maxwell, who has missed three games with a calf injury and Jeremy Lane, who is back after eight weeks on the injured reserve/designated for return list. Also back is defensive tackle Jordan Hill, who missed three games with an ankle injury.

That means the Seahawks have two healthy scratches on this week’s inactives, S Steven Terrell and newly-signed TE Tony Moeaki, a week after having injured players active (Chancellor and Unger) simply because they ran out of room on the inactive list for all the injured players.

Cornerbacks Marcus Burley and Maxwell, who were both questionable, are active which means the Seahawks go from being pretty thin at corner to suddenly having a lot of depth again. Carroll raved about Tharold Simon’s play last week, so it’s not a given that Maxwell will immediately jump right back into a full time role, and Lane could split time with Burley in the nickel cornerback spot if the Seahawks want to ease Lane back into things after a long layoff.

Also active is just-added defensive end Demarcus Dobbs, who the Seahawks claimed off of waivers from San Francisco earlier in the week. Dobbs played extensively on special teams with the 49ers, so it’s likely he’ll have a bigger role there than in the defensive line rotation this week.

Seahawks inactives: S Steven Terrell, S Kam Chancellor, LB Bobby Wagner, LB Malcolm Smith, G James Carpenter, TE Zach Miller, TE Tony Moeaki.

Giants inactives: RB Rashad Jennings, CB Mike Harris, G Adam Snyder, DE Kerry Wynn, T James Brewer, G Brandon Mosley, DT Jay Bromley.
