RENTON — The Seattle Seahawks kicked off their practice week early thanks to a Thursday night season opener, and among the players participating were eight members of the practice squad: tight end RaShaun Allen, running back Demitrius Bronson, quarterback B.J. Daniels, tackle Nate Isles, wide receiver Chris Matthews, safety Terrance Parks, defensive tackle Jimmy Staten and safety Steven Terrell.
Those are all players who spent camp with the Seahawks and were cut Saturday, which in part speaks to Seattle’s depth, but also has to do with the logistics of this week. Before a player could be signed to a practice squad, he had to clear waivers Sunday, which meant anyone the Seahawks were going to have on the field for their first practice of the week would have had to already be available. It’s entirely possible that the Seahawks could look to fill its final two spots with players from other teams’ cut list, or even switch out some of the current practice squad roster in the next couple of weeks.
One player the Seahawks couldn’t add to their practice squad was fullback Kiero Small, a seventh-round pick who instead signed with Cleveland’s practice squad.
Harvin returns to practice
Receiver Percy Harvin returned to practice Sunday after missing most of last week. Harvin had missed practice Tuesday and Wednesday, and did not attend Thursday preseason game in Oakland for what Pete Carroll said were “personal reasons.”
The Seahawks are not required to put out an injury report, so there is not a full list of participation in Sunday’s practice, but a team spokesman did confirm that Harvin was there and participating.
