First Antonio Bryant, and now Braylon Edwards. The Seahawks are officially into the “kicking the tires” portion of training camp. OK, maybe that’s not fair. It’s not that Bryant and Edwards aren’t accomplished players who have done some pretty impressive things in their careers, it’s just that neither has done much lately, hence their availability in late July.
The Seahawks had both Edwards and Bryant in for a workout last week before the start of camp, and quickly and signed Bryant right away. This morning, Seattle also signed Edwards, who spent last season in San Francisco before being waived late in the year.
Edwards, 29, was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2005 draft, and steadily improved over his first three seasons before being named an All Pro in 2007 after catching 80 passes for 1,289 yards and 16 touchdowns. Edwards put up solid numbers as recently as 2010 when he had 53 catches for 904 yards and 7 touchdowns with the Jets, but last year he played in just nine games, starting five while catching 15 passes for 181 yards.
