Seattle Metro Classic pickleball event comes to Shoreline

The state’s largest pickleball tournament takes place Tuesday through Sunday at Shoreview Park.

The Seattle Metro Pickleball Association is hosting the sixth edition of the 2024 Seattle Metro Classic pickleball tournament beginning Tuesday and concluding Sunday at Shoreview Park in Shoreline.

What started as a one-day event in 2018 that included 40 players soon grew into a six-day event, gathering players from across the U.S. and other countries, according to a press release.

Six park tennis courts will be transformed into 18 pickleball courts to hold the double-elimination event, which includes men’s, women’s and mixed doubles in 12+, 35+, 50+ and 60+ divisions, as well as open and senior open brackets. The open divisions require a minimum 4.5 DUPR rating.

Senior men’s doubles are Tuesday, senior mixed doubles Wednesday, senior women’s doubles Thursday, men’s doubles Friday, mixed doubles Saturday and women’s doubles Sunday.

“This year’s Metro Classic will feature the second annual Border Battle pitting a team of Oregon pros against a team from Washington,” stated in the press release. “Bragging rights and a cash prize are on the line in this MLP-style event. The match begins immediately following the senior women’s open finals on the championship court at Shoreview Park, Thursday Aug. 1.”

All matches begin at 8 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. each day.
