Senior center leads Murphy

EVERETT – Senior center Lisa Coate provided the leadership to guide the Archbishop Murphy Wildcats to a victory in the first round of the 2A District 1 playoffs Wednesday.

The Wildcats defeated Nooksack Valley 48-34 to advance to a winner-to-state playoff game at 8 p.m. Saturday at Mount Vernon High School.

Coate scored 11 of her 17 points in the second half and grabbed 10 rebounds for the game while keeping her team composed.

“She was the leader of the club and she kept the momentum in our favor tonight,” Wildcats coach John Barhanovich said “It was a great team effort.”

King’s advanced to play Mount Baker in a winner-to-state game at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Mount Vernon High School.
