Everett holds Prince George scoreless after the first period en route to a 5-2 victory.

EVERETT — Ben Hemmerling scored twice and the Everett Silvertips held the Prince George Cougars scoreless after the first period in a 5-2 win on Tuesday at Angel of the Winds Arena.

Chase Wheatcroft scored twice in the opening frame, sandwiched around a goal from Everett’s Austin Roest, as the Cougars jumped out in front 2-1 early.

But Ryan Hofer and Hemmerling scored in the second as the Silvertips took the lead, and Caden Zaplinty and Hemmerling scored in the third to add insurace and seal the win.

Braden Holt started in goal for Everett (15-10-1-0) and stopped 29 of the 31 shots he face.

Ty Young made 45 saves for Prince George (14-12-0-0).
