EVERETT — The Everett Silvertips continued their torrid start to the season Sunday with a 5-2 victory over the rival Seattle Thunderbirds at Angel of the Winds Arena.
Five different Silvertips scored goals as they beat the Thunderbirds for the fourth time in four tries.
Olen Zellweger opened the scoring with 14:57 left in the first period and Ronan Seeley extended the lead to 2-0 less than 3 minutes later with a power-play goal.
Seattle’s Jeremy Hanzel cut the lead to 2-1 with 47 seconds remaining in the first as the Thunderbirds capitalized on a power-play chance.
Everett’s Jackson Berezowski delivered the deciding score with his team-best 10th goal of the campaign 30 seconds into the second.
Conner Roulette pulled Seattle within 3-2 with 11:52 left in regulation, but Alex Swetilkoff and Austin Roest added a pair of empty-netters that sealed the victory for the Silvertips.
Everett (15-0-0-1, 31 points) has won 15 of its first 16 games this season and extended its U.S. Division lead over second-place Seattle (11-5-1-0, 23 points) to eight points.
Koen MacInnes stopped 31 of 33 shots to pick up the win in net. Seattle’s Thomas Milic recorded 26 saves in 29 chances.
