Silvertips fall 5-2 to Kamloops

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — There was no dramatic comeback for the Everett Silvertips this time.

Everett made a spirited third-period push, but the Tips could not overcome the Kamloops Blazers, falling 5-2 Saturday night.

One night earlier Everett overcame a three-goal third-period deficit to defeat Spokane 4-3 in overtime.

The Tips again found themselves down 3-0 Saturday. Twice Everett pulled within two, and the Tips had chances on the power play in the third while trailing 4-2. But the Tips couldn’t capitalize, and the Blazers put it away with a late goal.

Tim Bozon scored twice to lead Kamloops (31-10-1-2), which won its sixth straight. Brandon Herrod, Chase Schaber and Brock Balson also scored for the Blazers, while Cole Cheveldave made 24 saves to earn the win in goal.

Ryan Murray and JT Barnett scored for Everett (8-27-1-7). Kent Simpson made 30 saves in net for the Tips.

Kamloops outshot Everett 14-4 in the first period and converted that into a 2-0 lead. Herrod opened the scoring at 8 minutes, 56 seconds, roofing a shot from the slot after a shot was blocked in front. Then Bozon made it 2-0 on the power play at 19:10, converting a nice feed from JC Lipon.

The Blazers made it 3-0 while short-handed 2:25 into the second. Schaber and Simpson both went for a loose puck, with Schaber winning the race and scoring.

The Tips trailed 3-0 Friday against Spokane before Murray scored to begin an Everett comeback. Murray was at it again Saturday as his slap shot on the power play got under Cheveldave to make it 3-1.

The Tips then had a five-on-three power play early in the the third. But the Blazers killed it off and scored themselves shortly after, Bozon converting a breakaway to make it 4-1 at 3:42.

Everett got back with two at 4-2 at 6:45, Barnett getting a redirect on the power play. The Tips continued to push, at one point holding a 15-4 shot advantage in the third. But they couldn’t convert, and Balson scored with 4:06 remaining to clinch it.
