Just one day after signing their 2025 first-round pick Reid Nicol, the Everett Silvertips signed Owen Murray, their second-round pick, to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement, the team announced in a press release on Thursday.
Everett selected the 15-year-old Winnipeg native with the 31st overall pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft on May 8. The team acquired the pick from the expansion Penticton Vees in exchange for goalie Jesse Sanche. With it, they added Murray, a 5-foot-8 forward who scored 108 points (44 goals, 64 assists) in just 32 games with the Winnipeg Bruins U15 AAA Gold.
“I’m super pumped to be joining the Silvertips,” Murray said in the press release. “It’s honestly such a cool opportunity to be a part of a team like this. I’m really excited to hit the ice, work hard and keep getting better with the help of my teammates and coaches.”
Silvertips Director of Scouting Brooks Christensen pointed out Murray’s ability to “find the back of the net,” and complimented the work done by general manager Mike Fraser to turn Sanche — who lost the starting job to Raiden LeGall by the end of the season — into a valuable pick that allowed them to select Murray.
“(Fraser), I think, did a great job of facilitating a trade that got us a piece that put us in a great position in this draft,” Christensen told The Herald on May 9. “And getting a great player like Owen Murray, you know, at the end of the day is a huge win for the Silvertips organization.”
