Silvertips’ schedule has team on the road a lot in January

EVERETT — The Everett Silvertips will become well acquainted with the team bus in January.

On Wednesday the Silvertips released their 72-game regular season schedule for the 2014-15 WHL season, and the defining characteristic is the amount of travel Everett undergoes at the start of the new year.

Everett has both of its long road trips in January. The Tips start the month by heading east for their six-game swing through the East Division on Jan. 2-10. Then Everett heads north to Prince George for back-to-back games on Jan. 20-21, with the team stopping in Kelowna on the way back for a pair of games on Jan. 23-24. In total the Tips play 14 games in January, 11 of which are on the road.

The season begins on Sept. 20 with a game in Kent against the rival Seattle Thunderbirds in a rematch of last season’s first-round playoff series, which Seattle won 4-1. That is Everett’s only game during the season’s opening weekend.

Everett’s first home game doesn’t come until two weeks into the season, when the Tips welcome Kelowna to Comcast Arena on Oct. 3.

Everett gets a heavy does of four-time defending Western Conference champion Portland early in the season, with four of its first six games against the Winterhawks.

Defending WHL and Memorial Cup champion Edmonton visits Comcast Arena on Nov. 1.

The season concludes with a three-in-three weekend. Everett’s final home game is the back end of a home-and-home set with Victoria on March 21. The season finale is the next night in Spokane.

Davis, Juulsen summoned

Everett defensemen Kevin Davis and Noah Juulsen were among the 44 players invited to attend Canada’s summer camp to will determine selection for the U-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup. Davis, a 17-year-old from Kamloops, B.C., had one goal and eight assists in 65 games last season. Juulsen, a 17-year-old from Abbotsford, B.C., had two goals and eight assists in 59 games last season. The camp takes place on Aug. 2-5 in Calgary, Alberta. The tournament is Aug. 11-16 in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
