KELOWNA, B.C. — Beau Courtney scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with just over 5 minutes to play and Everett hung on to beat the Kelwona Rockets 5-4 in the Silvertips’ first road game of the season.
Steel Quiring, Austin Roest and Olen Zellweger scored in the first period as the Silvertips raced out to a 3-0 lead.
But the Rocket’s responded with goals from Andrew Cristall, Elias Carmichael and Rilen Kovacevic to even the score at 3-3 early in the third.
Roest scored his second goal of the game to give the Silvertips a 4-3 lead before Courtney added his crucial tally just two minutes later.
Cristall scored his second goal with just 15 second to play to cut Everett’s lead to one, but the Silvertips hung on for the victory.
Braden Holt stopped 27 of 31 shots for Everett (6-1-0-0).
Jari Kykkanen made 18 saves for Kelowna (3-4-1-0).
