The Everett Silvertips traded goaltender Jesse Sanche to the Penticton Vees in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick on Wednesday, the team announced.
The Silvertips received the 31st overall pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, which begins on Wednesday with the first round and continues Thursday. The Vees are joining the WHL this season as an expansion team after migrating from the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL).
The trade coincides with the 2025 WHL Expansion Draft, which took place earlier on Wednesday. Penticton acquired 22 players from the rest of the WHL to fill out their initial roster. Everett was one of seven teams to agree to a trade with Penticton rather than having a player simply selected.
“Jesse was a tremendous Silvertip and helped bring stability and depth to our goaltending,” Silvertips general manager Mike Fraser said in a statement. “We thank him for his contributions. He will have a tremendous opportunity in Penticton and we wish him all the best with the Vees.”
Sanche finished the season with a 23-9-2 record as well as a 2.65 goals-against average and .903 save percentage. After leading the lead in both of the latter categories through the first half of the season, his performance started to slip and he eventually ceded the starting role to Raiden LeGall, who was acquired in late November 2024.
The two goaltenders rotated through the early portion of the playoffs, with LeGall starting in Game 1 before turning to Sanche in Games 2 and 3 against the Seattle Thunderbirds in the first round. Sanche allowed six goals in the Game 3 loss on April 1, and LeGall started Game 4 and beyond until Sanche received one final start in Game 6 of the second round against the Portland Winterhawks on April 19, an 8-4 win for Everett. LeGall returned to the crease in Game 7, where the Silvertips lost 4-2 on April 22.
The Silvertips hold the fifth overall pick in the draft, which they own from a trade with the Kamloops Blazers from Jan. 2023.
