Western Washington University senior libero Courtney Schneider was named volleyball co-athlete of the week on Monday by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference for the week ending Friday, Sept. 22.

Schneider, a Snohomish High School alum, broke her own school and league record with 50 digs as the Vikings defeated Central Washington University, 30-18, 28-30, 30-21, 30-28 in a GNAC match Saturday at Nicholson Pavilion in Ellensburg.

It was the 62nd consecutive double-digit dig contest for Schneider, who extended her school and conference career-record total to 2,177, which ranks 11th all-time in NCAA Division II.

Middle blocker Tiana Roma, a junior and Edmonds-Woodway alum, had 16 kills for the Vikings against Central Washington. Western Washington improved to 8-4 overall with the victory and remained tied for first place in the GNAC at 4-1.

Fish records 24th and 25th shutouts: Western Washington University senior goalkeeper Teresa Fish extended her school-record total of shutouts to 25 and tied the Great Northwest Athletic Conference mark in a 1-0 victory over Grand Canyon University in non-conference women’s soccer match on Monday in Bellingham.

Fish, a Monroe High School alum, made four saves in recording her fifth shutout of the season.

On Sept. 3, Fish made five saves and snapped the school record with her 24th career shutout in a 3-0 non-conference victory over Cal State Stanislaus on Sept. 3 in Bellingham.

Golf

Koppenberg earns weekly honor: Western Washington University junior Jake Koppenberg was named the golf athlete of the week on Monday by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference for the week ending Friday, Sept. 22.

Koppenberg, an Everett High School alum, shot a final-round 7-under-par 64 to finish second at the Saint Martin’s University Invitational on Saturday at the Olympia Golf and Country Club.

Koppenberg finished 8-under with a 134 total, five strokes behind the medalist, 2007 NCAA Division II player of the year Jarin Todd of Sonoma State.

Football

Gunter making an impact: Princeton University freshman Kenny Gunter led the Tigers with 111 all-purpose yards in a 32-21 season-opening loss to Lehigh on Sept. 15 in Princeton, N.J.
