Snohomish beats flu, Cascade 3-0

SNOHOMISH – The flu-bitten Snohomish Panthers scored two goals early and played effective defense for the remaining 70 minutes to blank the Cascade Bruins 3-0 in a Wesco North Division match at Snohomish High School Thursday night.

Junior forward Brian Ferrin opened the scoring just four minutes in, taking a pass from senior defender Benji Nutu and knocking it home.

The Bruins had little time to regroup as a mere four minutes later, Justin Cheff took a pass from Nutu off his chest and booted it over the Cascade keeper to make it 2-0.

At the 70-minute mark, forward Conor Lacy crunched a Chris Hund pass just inside the far post to finish the scoring.

Sophomore keeper John MacArthur notched the shutout for the Panthers, who improve to 4-0 on the young season.

“It wasn’t pretty, but it was efficient,” said Snohomish head coach Dan Pingrey. “It was a roughly played game.”

Pingrey noted that four or five Panthers have been sick “darn nearly every game.”

The Panthers travel to Monroe Monday before hosting unbeaten rival Lake Stevens on Wednesday. By then, Pingrey hopes the flu bug has long disappeared.

“Once we get everybody back healthy, we’ll be fine, said Pingrey.
