Stanwood comes up with another big Wesco North win

STANWOOD – For the second straight Wesco North game, the Stanwood soccer team had its back against the wall.

And for the second time, it responded with a win.

Tuesday, the Spartans scored a goal in each half to defeat Marysville-Pilchuck 2-1 and avenge its loss (3-2 OT) to the Tommies earlier this season.

“It was a great team effort tonight,” Stanwood coach Dave Anderson said. “We were going to hold on and not let down (this time.)”

The deciding goal came in the 66th minute when a Wentland shot that caromed off M-P keeper Caleb Kuehn was slammed home by Stanwood’s Avery Lohoff.
