EVERETT — The Washington Stealth on Friday announced the signing of defenseman Eric Martin to a two-year contract. The deal is pending approval by the National Lacrosse League.
Martin, a left-hander, has spent all seven of his NLL seasons with the Stealth. He has proven to be not only a valuable defender, but also a threat on the offensive end of the floor. In each of the past six seasons Martin has tallied 10 or more points, including 17 points in the 2011 season (five goals, 12 assists).
Defensively, Martin collected 92 loose balls and forced 18 turnovers in 13 regular-season games last season.
“Eric is a tremendous competitor and has developed into one of the top defenseman in the NLL,” Stealth general manager Doug Locker said in a press release. “While his statistics speak for themselves, what the numbers don’t show is his commitment, passion and work ethic and we could not be happier to have him wearing a Stealth jersey into the foreseeable future.”
Martin was selected by the Stealth in the second round of the 2004 NLL Entry Draft. In 102 career regular-season games Martin has accumulated 98 points (24 goals, 74 assists). He ranks sixth all-time in Stealth history with 782 loose balls collected.
