Stilly Valley squad wins state title

The Arlington-based Stilly Valley Little League All-Star fastpitch softball team captured the major division state championship last week in Walla Walla.

Stilly Valley, a team made up of 11- and 12-year-olds, defeated Sammamish 5-2 Friday in the title game of the week-long tournament. Stilly Valley went undefeated, posting a 5-0 record.

The Stilly Valley squad advances to the Western Regionals, which begin Saturday in Vancouver, Wash. The regional winner moves on to the Little League Softball World Series, scheduled for Aug. 7-13 in Portland, Ore.

The Stilly Valley roster included Hayley Fields, Amy Revelle, Macall McGhee, Syvannah Cram, Jessica Ludwig, Katelynn Kazen, Savannah Diemer, Kayla Mashburn, Bailey Hoag, Marisa Rathert, Katelyn McDonald, Hayden Fields and Kaylyn Myers.

The team was managed by Brian Fields. The coaches were Steve McDonald and Butch Diemer.

Express rolls to two state titles: The Snohomish County Express fastpitch softball team won the National Softball Association (NSA) 14A state title last month and followed up last week by capturing the NSA 14B title.

The Express went undefeated in both tournaments and, according to team officials, was the first squad in tournament history to win the 14A title without a high school player on its roster.

The Express is 63-10-2 this season and has won six of the 11 tournaments the team entered.

The team’s roster included Brooke Taylor, Haley Fritz, Jessica Christensen, Dallas Nelson, Monica Clow, Kristen Musgrave, Abbey Facey, Erin Bueser, Chloe Kesterson, Lauren Kesterson and Holly Hawkins.

The team was managed by Rick Fritz and coached by Rick Clow and Matt Kesterson.
