CAMAS – The good news is Sultan won its 2A girls soccer state quarterfinal game Saturday, 3-0 over Ridgefield at Doc Harris Stadium.
The bad news? The victory sets up a re-match with fellow Cascade Conference member Archbishop Murphy in the state semifinals. The two league rivals will meet for the fourth time this season at 10 a.m. Friday at Lakewood Stadium.
Archbishp Murphy won each of the first three meetings – 5-1, 2-0, 1-0 – in that order. Will the fourth time be the charm for Sultan (14-7 overall)?
“We sure hope so,” Sultan coach Andrea Fuller. “We were consistently better every time we played them.”
Tawnya Axtman scored two goals for Sultan, which scored all three of its goals in the first 18 minutes of the second half.
