It’s rare for an unranked football team to lose and then jump into the state rankings, but that’s exactly what the Lakewood Cougars accomplished.
The previously unbeaten Lakewood High School football team endured its first defeat of the season on Friday, but the Cougars’ 35-28 loss versus Class 2A top-ranked Archbishop Murphy at Terry Ennis Stadium impressed many football observers, including Doug Pacey of the Tacoma News Tribune.
Pacey rated Lakewood (4-1) No. 9 in 2A in his Week 6 TNT rankings. Click here to see the complete rankings.
Archbishop Murphy (5-0) remains No. 1 in 2A. Glacier Peak (4-1) rose a spot to No. 9 in 3A following its impressive Wesco 3A win over Meadowdale. Also, King’s (5-0) dropped a spot to 1A No. 3 despite its dominating 35-0 triumph against South Whidbey.
