Seahawks quarterback Tarvaris Jackson had by far his most active day of practice since suffering a pectoral strain three weeks ago in New York. He’ll officially be listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against Cincinnati, but it sounds like Jackson has a good chance of starting unless he has a setback in the next two days.
“I’ve been making the jump each day, so hopefully I get that same jump tomorrow,” said Jackson, who missed last week’s loss to Cleveland. “If it makes that jump like I think, then I should be fine.”
Jackson admitted he still isn’t throwing pain free, but he feels like he can deal with that so long as it doesn’t keep him from making all the required throws: “I still kind of feel it when I throw a little bit. I already have it in my head that there’s going to be some pain when I throw. There will be a little soreness.”
He knows the final decision will belong to Pete Carroll, but Jackson feels like he is ready to come back Sunday.
“I want to play,” he said. “Obviously I want to play, but if I can’t be the player that I know I can be, I don’t want to go out there and hurt the team, but I feel like it’s time for me to come back. I don’t think this injury can keep me out of the game much longer. We’re 2-4 right now, so I want to get back out there so we can get some Ws.”
What he won’t do, Jackson said, is play if it will jeopardize the team: “If I play, I’m going to be able to throw the deep ball. I’m not going to go out there and play and let defenses just sit all over our short stuff and not be able to make throws down the field. If I’m playing, I’m going to be able to make the throws.”
Carroll said he still doesn’t know who will start Sunday: “Tarvaris had his best day in the last couple of weeks. He just started to some out of it and threw the ball well. He’s still questionable, but we’ll take the next couple of days and see where we are, but that’s a very good sign… Charlie had all of the lead work and he’s ready to start the game, and we’ll go ahead and take it one day at time, see where we are tomorrow and go from there.”
“It’s encouraging, and I think he’ll have a chance to play if he can get through these two days.”
