First- and second-team selections with season bios for each player.

Eds. note: The Player of the Year and All-Area teams were chosen by The Herald sports staff based on coach recommendations, season stats and first-hand observations.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Iyanla Pennington, jr., Jackson

Pennington led the Timberwolves to their first-ever state title with a dominant season in the circle and at the plate. The Coastal Carolina University commit posted a 0.35 earned-run average, allowing just seven earned runs in 139 1/3 innings pitched. She recorded 282 strikeouts and just 48 walks, averaging more than two strikeouts per inning. Pennington also batted .507 with eight home runs, 10 doubles, a .613 on-base percentage and .972 slugging percentage.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Kyle Peacocke, Jackson

Peacocke guided the Timberwolves to a 25-1 record and the program’s first-ever state championship. Jackson also earned a share of the Wesco 4A regular-season crown and claimed its fourth consecutive 4A Northwest District tournament title.

FIRST TEAM

PITCHERS

Iyanla Pennington, jr., Jackson

Bailey Greenlee, sr., Snohomish

Greenlee posted a 1.44 earned-run average in 146 innings pitched while leading the Panthers to the Class 3A state title game. The Missouri State University signee tossed four no-hitters and recorded 248 strikeouts and just 50 walks. She also batted .386 with one home run, two triples and four doubles.

CATCHER

Rachel Klein-Christensen, sr., Everett

Christensen posted a .506 batting average, .582 on-base percentage and .779 slugging percentage. She hit two home runs, three triples and nine doubles.

INFIELDERS

Cheyenne Nelson, sr., Cedar Park Christian

Nelson posted a .724 batting average, .770 on-base percentage and 1.089 slugging percentage. She hit one home run, two triples and 12 doubles.

Lilianne Fischer, jr., Marysville Pilchuck

Fischer batted .623 with six home runs and 16 doubles. She posted a .689 on-base percentage and 1.116 slugging percentage.

Isabelle Hansen, jr., Snohomish

Hansen batted .507 with nine home runs and nine doubles. She posted a .556 on-base percentage and 1.014 slugging percentage.

Jazz Zenk, sr., Mountlake Terrace

Zenk batted .512 with seven home runs, two triples and 11 doubles. She posted a .548 on-base percentage and .940 slugging percentage.

OUTFIELDERS

Chloe Morgan, sr., Marysville Pilchuck

Morgan posted a .571 batting average, .629 on-base percentage and .747 slugging percentage. She hit two home runs, three triples and four doubles.

Jackie Rookaird, jr., Kamiak

Rookaird posted a .482 batting average, .531 on-base percentage and .714 slugging percentage. The San Jose State University commit hit four triples and five doubles.

Sami Reynolds, sr., Snohomish

Reynolds posted a .476 batting average, .545 on-base percentage and .658 slugging percentage. The University of Washington signee hit one home run, one triple and 10 doubles.

DESIGNATED PLAYER

McKenzie Justice, sr., Marysville Pilchuck

Justice batted .476 with 12 home runs, three triples and seven doubles. She posted a .564 on-base percentage and 1.098 slugging percentage. She also had a 1.47 earned-run average in 105 innings pitched.

PITCHERS

Sara Johnson, sr., Lake Stevens

Johnson posted a 1.67 earned-run average in 104 2/3 innings pitched while leading the Vikings to a share of the Wesco 4A regular-season title. The Towson University signee recorded 176 strikeouts and just 23 walks. She also batted .490 with six triples, 11 doubles, a .634 on-base percentage and .800 slugging percentage.

Mackenzee Collins, sr., South Whidbey

Collins struck out 283 batters and walked just 41, averaging 2.1 strikeouts per inning while leading the Falcons to the Class 1A state tournament. The Colorado State University signee posted a 2.08 earned-run average in 137 2/3 innings pitched and was named the Cascade Conference defensive player of the year. She also batted .366 with one home run, one triple and 10 doubles.

CATCHER

Ruby Sugayan, sr., Snohomish

Sugayan batted .500 with two home runs, one triple, five doubles and a .691 slugging percentage.

INFIELDERS

Emma Fortney, jr., Lake Stevens

Fortney posted a .546 batting average, .701 on-base percentage and .793 slugging percentage. She hit two home runs, three triples and nine doubles.

Kendall Curtis, jr., Glacier Peak

Curtis posted a .542 batting average, .617 on-base percentage and .854 slugging percentage. She hit three home runs, three triples and five doubles.

Megan Gordon, sr., Everett

Gordon posted a .431 batting average, .523 on-base percentage and .806 slugging percentage. She hit four home runs, five triples and five doubles.

Michaela Carter, jr., Cedarcrest

Carter posted a .602 batting average, .650 on-base percentage and .931 slugging percentage. The Cascade Conference offensive player of the year hit two home runs, seven triples and nine doubles.

OUTFIELDERS

Lexie Klaudt, jr., Archbishop Murphy

Klaudt batted .525 with 10 extra-base hits. She posted a .605 on-base percentage and .721 slugging percentage.

Phoebe Schultz, soph., Glacier Peak

Schultz batted .400 with six home runs, two triples and four doubles. She posted a .500 on-base percentage and .850 slugging percentage.

Mariah Woolery, sr., Edmonds-Woodway

Woolery posted a .420 batting average, .500 on-base percentage and .536 slugging percentage. She hit one home run and five doubles.

DESIGNATED PLAYER

Brooke Jordan, soph., Archbishop Murphy

Jordan batted .574 with 22 extra-base hits, including 10 home runs. She posted a .628 on-base percentage and 1.206 slugging percentage. She also had 155 strikeouts as a pitcher.
