Not much new to report today aside from the Apple Cup news I posted earlier.
Tyrone Willingham said practice has been going good this week, and that there are no significant new injuries. Backup fullback Luke Kravitz still looks to be out for this week with a hand injury. Cornerback Byron Davenport (hamstring) seems to be recovering well. Willingham wouldn’t say for sure whether Davenport will play this week, but it seems likely that he will be ready.
Tailback J.R. Hasty is still being bothered by an ankle injury, but should be able to play.
Linebacker Donald Butler, who has been slowed at times by swelling in a surgically repaired knee, is reportedly moving around well this week.
Willingham also mentioned that three players—Ben Ossai, Cody Habben and Chad Macklin—could form a three-man rotation at the two offensive tackle positions. Last week, Ossai and Habben split time at left tackle while Macklin played right tackle.
Finally, if you missed it in today’s paper, today is apparently overcoming adversity day in our Husky coverage. I didn’t really plan it this way, but that’s just sort of how it worked out with player availability and such. One of today’s stories focuses on linebacker Trenton Tuiasosopo, who finally feels like he’s all the way back from the head injury that almost cost him a lot more than football.
For this story I talked to kicker/punter Jared Ballman, whose recovery has been more mental that physical.
That’s all for today, and we won’t have any availability to players and coaches tomorrow, so there won’t be much news. I’ll be posting before and during Saturday’s game.
And in case you are wondering, I’m picking Washington to win this one in a shootout, 35-31.
