KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Cole Aldrich had 12 points and 18 rebounds, and No. 1 Kansas became the third team to reach 2,000 wins by pulling out an 80-68 victory over scrappy Texas Tech on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament.

Kansas (30-2) slogged through a sloppy first half and had to withstand a Texas Tech rally in the second before pulling away to join Kentucky and North Carolina in the 2,000-win club. The Jayhawks play Texas A&M in the tournament semifinals.

John Roberson had 14 points and eight assists for Texas Tech (17-15).

No. 22 Georgetown 91, No. 3 Syracuse 84

NEW YORK — Chris Wright scored 27 points and the No. 22 Hoyas sailed past third-ranked Syracuse in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament. Syracuse (28-4) has to worry about Arinze Onuaku. He hurt his right knee and did not return to the game, and is expected to get an MRI exam when the team returned home.

The No. 8 seed Hoyas (22-9) play Marquette in the first semifinal tonight.

No. 7 West Virginia 54, Cincinnati 51

NEW YORK — Da’Sean Butler took an inbounds pass and banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give No. 7 West Virginia a victory in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament. Cincinnati (18-15) had a chance to win it, but Dion Dixon lost the ball on the sideline with 3.1 seconds remaining to give West Virginia the last shot.

No. 8 New Mexico 75, Air Force 69

LAS VEGAS — Darrington Hobson scored 28 points to help the No. 8 Lobos set a school record for wins in a season during the Mountain West Conference quarterfinals. The Lobos play San Diego State in the tournament semifinals.

No. 9 Kansas St. 83, Oklahoma St. 64

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jamar Samuels scored 21 of his career-high 27 points in the first half, and the No. 9 Wildcats (25-6) tied a school single-season record for wins.

Marquette 80, No. 10 Villanova 76

NEW YORK — Lazar Hayward gave Marquette the lead with a 3-pointer with 1:51 left, then added the clinching free throws with 3.2 seconds to go in the Big East tournament quarterfinals. Fifth-seeded Marquette (22-10) faces eighth-seeded Georgetown in the semifinals.

No. 14 BYU 95, TCU 85

LAS VEGAS — Jimmer Fredette set a tournament record with 45 points and No. 14 BYU broke the school’s 60-year-old mark for wins in a season in the Mountain West quarterfinals.

Fredette was 23 of 24 from the foul line for the Cougars (29-4), his 23 free throws also setting a tournament record. His point total broke former Utah star Lou Kelly’s mark of 35 points set against New Mexico in 2002.

No. 15 Tennessee 59, LSU 49

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Wayne Chism had 17 points and 10 rebounds as the No. 15 Vols came back from a miserable first half to advance in the Southeastern Conference tournament. The Volunteers play Mississippi in the quarterfinals.

Notre Dame 50, No. 16 Pittsburgh 45

NEW YORK — Luke Harangody came off the bench and hit three key free throws in the final 2 minutes to help Notre Dame into the Big East tournament semifinals.

Harangody and Tory Jackson each had 12 points for the Irish (23-10), who play West Virginia tonight for a chance to play in the title game.

No. 21 Baylor 86, Texas 67

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — LaceDarius Dunn, benched with three quick fouls in the first half, scored 17 of his 19 points after intermission to lead No. 21 Baylor into the Big 12 semifinals.

Epke Udoh, the Big 12’s newcomer of the year, scored 25 points for the third-seeded Bears (25-6), who meet No. 2 seed Kansas State today.
