TRACK AND FIELD ROUNDUP

SHORELINE — Surrounded by the state’s top track and field competitors left and right, Edmonds-Woodway’s Alec Fellows kept his cool and turned in what his coach described as an outstanding performance.

With district and league meets looming, things are looking good for the Warriors.

Fellows placed in the top three in three events, and Edmonds-Woodway scored 22 team points to place 12th at the 22nd annual Shoreline Track and Field Invite Saturday at Shoreline Stadium. North Central scored 61 points to place first, Todd Beamer scored 45 points to place second, and Kentwood placed third with 44.5 points.

The Shoreline Invite featured 78 schools and over 1,000 competitors, and was billed by meet organizers as the largest all-boys track invite in the Pacific Northwest.

Seven different events featured either the top-ranked athlete or relay team in the state of Washington.

Against this strong competition, Fellows took third in the high jump with a leap of six feet, five inches, second in the long jump with a jump of 22 feet, 4.75 inches, and second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.90 seconds.

“He had an outstanding meet today,” Edmonds-Woodway head coach Rick Fillman said. “… (Just) a great meet.”

Fillman also credited the 4 x 100 relay team of Michael Indalecio, Reid Sullivan, Din Kuses and Noah Martin with setting a new school record of 44.28 seconds to place 12th.

“The boys didn’t score any points,” Fillman said, “but they set a new record … when you have kids setting (personal records) it’s extremely encouraging, as we have the last couple weeks of the season.”

With E-W’s strong performance Saturday, Fillman is optimistic his team will have a chance to win its third consecutive school district championship against Meadowdale, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace on Friday. Fillman also thinks they will have a chance to win the Wesco South meet the week after.

“Jackson is a very powerful team and unfortunately they weren’t at this (Shoreline meet),” Fillman said, “But it at least gives us a chance to go into the league meet and (compete) for the championship.”

Snohomish was the next-highest local finisher, placing 18th with 16 team points.

Marlyn Anderson helped power Snohomish to that finish by placing second in the shot put with a distance of 55 feet, 6.25 inches behind Andrey Levkiv of Hazen High School.

Cedarcrest and Stanwood tied for 26th place, Everett took 30th place and 1A King’s High School tied Mariner, Skyline, and Mercer Island for 32nd place with 8 team points.
