Tri-City 6, Everett 3

TALKING POINTS

The Tri-City Americans arrived late for the start of the second half, but it only bothered them for one period. Half the team had a nightmare ordeal arriving at the game today, forcing the game to start an hour late. Everett took advantage, with Tyler Maxwell’s first-period hat trick giving the Tips a 3-1 lead. However, the Americans found their legs in the second period and turned the game around, scoring the final five goals. Full credit to Tri-City for turning the game around.

There were some controversial moments in the third period. First, with Tri-City leading 4-3, Adam Hughesman scored a goal the Tips claimed was batted in by his glove. Then Everett later had a goal that was overturned by video replay. A different outcome on either of those decisions could have changed the game.

The positive news for Everett is that the power play scored on both its opportunities, ending an 0-for-32 drought. The artists formerly known as the kid line had a fantastic first period, flying around the offensive zone and combining for seven points.

But once the Americans arrived for real the Tips struggled to keep up.

TURNING POINT

When Tri-City’s Neal Prokop scored on a rebound 2:59 into the second period, cutting the Americans’ deficit to one, one had the feeling the game was going to change. Tri-City was energized, Everett was unnerved, and the Americans took over.

HIT OF THE DAY

Midway through the first period Prokop caught Campbell Elynuik looking the other way and just leveled him with a straight-up hit, prompting Everett’s Cameron Abney to instigate a fight.

THREE STARS

First star: Brooks Macek, Tri-City. A goal and two assists, he always seems to play well against Everett.

Second star: Maxwell. His second career hat trick was in vain.

Third star: Prokop. Two goals and also was a factor physically.

The Herald’s honorable mention: Byron Froese, Everett. Two assists and several good scoring chances, he just couldn’t bury them tonight.

BOX SCORE

Tri-City 6, Everett 3
