A couple notes heading into Wednesday:
– Everett will have two players out injured when the Tips travel to Vancouver tomorrow. Defenseman Graham Potuer is back skating in practice after suffering a concussion on Oct. 3, but he has not yet been cleared to play. Also, left wing Jordan Mistelbacher tweaked an ankle Saturday and will also sit out against the Giants.
The Tips hope both Potuer and Mistelbacher are healthy in time for Friday’s home game against Kelowna. However, it’s tough timing for the Tips as Potuer and Mistelbacher are two of Everett’s more physical players, and they’ll be unavailable against a Giants team that traditionally is the most physical in the league.
– Everett has added former Giants goaltender Kraymer Barnstable to its 50-player protected list. The 18-year-old Barnstable served (sparingly) as Tyson Sexsmith’s backup last season, but was dropped after being beat out by 17-year-old Jamie Tucker for the backup role this season.
Everett general manager Doug Soetaert said the move was for emergency purposes. The only goalie in the system other than current netminders Shayne Barrie and Kent Simpson is 15-year-old Ryan Cadieux. Barnstable provides cover should either Barrie or Simpson get hurt, or if Simpson makes Team Pacific for the U-17 World Hockey Challenge and misses games around the new year.
