The 2018 football season at Tulalip Heritage High School has come to an early end.
The school announced Wednesday on its Facebook page that it did not have enough players to complete its eight-game regular-season schedule.
“Due to the lack of players, participation, and commitment, it is with great sadness, we have to cancel the remainder of our football season. We did not have the number of committed players to allow our players to play safely,” the school said in the post. “Thank you to those players and coaches who were committed!!”
The Hawks, who compete at the 1B level, play eight-man football in an 11-team league made up of similar-sized schools from throughout Western Washington.
The Hawks’ first two games of the season — against Oakville and Mary Knight — were postponed. They lost to Lummi Nation, 22-8, on Sept. 24, and fell to Taholah, 52-16, on Sept. 28.
Tulalip Heritage was scheduled to play at Wishkah Valley on Saturday.
