Two players from Snohomish County were selected Thursday on the third and final day of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft.
The Kansas City Royals picked outfielder Levi Cartas of Marysville-Pilchuck High School in the 35th round, and the Los Angeles Angels drafted University of Washington outfielder Jake Rife in the 48th round. Rife is a graduate of Lakewood High School.
On Wednesday, UW pitcher Brian Pearl, a Cascade High School graduate, was picked in the ninth round by the Cincinnati Reds; the Texas Rangers selected Everett Community College pitcher Keith Campbell in the 15th round, and Toronto picked Gonzaga pitcher Matt Fields in the 22nd round. Fields is from Lake Stevens.
