Oh, and in case anyone cares, the Huskies lost 48-7 to Cal to finish the year 0-12.
But looking ahead rather than behind at this awful season, here’s the school’s official annoucement that UCS offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will be Washington’s next head coach:
Washington To Introduce Sarkisian As New UW Football Coach
Former BYU All-America and current USC assistant head coach to become the school’s 23rd head football coach.

SEATTLE – The University of Washington announced today that Steve Sarkisian has been named the 23rd head football coach in the sport’s 119-year history at the institution.
Sarkisian will be introduced at a press conference scheduled for Monday, December 8, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. in the Don James Center in Husky Stadium. The public is invited to attend.
“I’m thrilled to have Steve heading up our football program,” said UW president Mark A. Emmert. “He’s a very talented, energetic coach with a great work ethic and values that match the UW. His challenge is very clear—we believe he’s entirely up to it, and we look forward to a return of the glory years for Husky football.”
Sarkisian is currently finalizing his second season as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at the University of Southern California. He had also previously served as assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach (2005-06), quarterbacks coach (2002-03) and as an offensive assistant (2001) at USC. During his seven seasons as a member of the Trojans’ staff, the team has posted a combined 74-15 record. As offensive coordinator, his record was 22-3. He also spent one season (2004) as quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders.
A 1997 graduate of BYU, he was a second-team All-America quarterback for the Cougars, led the nation in passing efficiency and was the Western Athletic Conference player of the year. He played three seasons in the Canadian Football League for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
“After a very thorough search, I am convinced that Steve is the right man to lead the University of Washington football program,” said director of athletics Scott Woodward. “He exhibits the right combination of integrity, toughness and passion as well as an extremely strong desire to win. There are a number of characteristics that we were looking for in a head coach and we were really excited that Steve possessed every one of them.”
“I am excited about the opportunity to become the head football coach at the University of Washington,” said Sarkisian. “I share the same expectations as the Husky fan base and I fully expect that we will return Washington to the top of the Pac-10 Conference and compete for national championships. I want to thank Mark Emmert and Scott Woodward for this opportunity and I am ready to get to work on behalf of this great institution.”
