University of Washington pitcher Danielle Lawrie was named the USA Softball National Player of the Week on Tuesday after winning three games against then-No. 2-ranked Arizona over the weekend.
Lawrie, a senior from Langley, B.C., earned her second weekly honor from USA Softball this season after posting a 3-0 record and a 1.33 earned-run average. In 21 innings, she struck out 39 batters.
“This is an extremely big honor to receive this award. I am so proud of how our team played last weekend,” Lawrie said in a press release from UW. “(Catcher) Shawna Wright and I just connected really well and when our offense gets going like they did, it pumps me up.”
Lawrie has been named the National Player of the Week three times in her career and after being named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week on Monday she is tied for the all-time conference record with 14 weekly honors.
“Anytime you have a student-athlete recognized for their achievements, it’s an honor. For USA Softball to recognize Danielle twice in one season is an incredible honor,” Washington Head Coach Heather Tarr said in a statement. “It speaks to her work ethic and competitive drive, but it also recognizes what our team achieved this weekend, and I know Danielle would be the first to put the team’s accomplishments ahead of her own, that’s the type of person she is.”
