SEATTLE _ University of Washington football coach Steve Sarkisian refuted a Los Angeles Times story on Friday, saying he has not been contacted by UCLA about the Bruins’ vacant coaching position.
Sarkisian said after a Friday afternoon practice that the report was untrue.
“I have not been contacted,” said Sarkisian, a native of Torrance, Calif., who has several family members who went to the school in nearby Westwood.
Sarkisian reiterated earlier comments that he did not want to engage in rumors about the job, saying: “I’ve said before, I’m not going to engage in speculation and rumors. Hopefully, as we continue to get better here, and we win even more games, those speculation and rumors are going to grow in numbers, and I don’t feel like I should have to come and talk about speculation and rumors every time they come up.”
The Bruins fired coach Rick Neuheisel earlier this month and have reportedly been interested in Boise State’s Chris Petersen. The L.A. Times reported Friday that Sarkisian had been contacted but expressed a desire to stay at UW.
