Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for Jan. 31-Feb. 6

The Athlete of the Week nominees for Jan. 31-Feb. 6. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s paper. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Ella Sylvester | Everett | Girls Basketball

Sylvester, a senior, averaged 21 points over two contests to help the Seagulls extend their winning streak to six games. Sylvester netted game highs with 18 points in a 54-41 win over Archbishop Murphy on Jan. 25 and 24 points in a 59-31 victory over Shorewood on Jan. 28. Sylvester won the Athlete of the Week voting for Jan. 24-30 by claiming 1,100 (40%) of 2,752 votes.

Laura Alcantar Soto | Cascade | Girls Wrestling

Alcantar Soto, a senior ranked fifth in the state at 130 pounds by Washington Wrestling Report, pinned Marysville Pilchuck’s Juju Kilroy, ranked 10th at 135 pounds, at the 4:58 mark to win the 130-pound title during the sub-regional tournament at Marysville Pilchuck High School on Feb. 5. She won all four of her matches in the tournament via pinfall.

Naod Alemu | Meadowdale | Boys Basketball

Alemu, a senior, connected on a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Meadowdale a 49-46 victory over Cascade on Feb. 4. He finished the game with 14 points and four assists.

Hayden Conaxis | Everett | Boys Basketball

Conaxis, a junior, hit a game-winning turnaround jumper at the buzzer in Everett’s 67-66 win over Snohomish on Jan. 31. Conaxis finished with a game-high 32 points, including 22 in the first half, and added 10 rebounds. He also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the Seagulls’ 63-57 victory over Edmonds-Woodway on Feb. 3.

Bella Hasan | Kamiak | Girls Basketball

Hasan, a sophomore, made all 12 of her free-throw attempts and scored a team-high 20 points in Kamiak’s 63-53 win over Glacier Peak on Jan. 31. She also scored 16 points in Kamiak’s 70-53 victory over Mariner on Feb. 2.

Keira Marsh | Arlington | Girls Basketball

Marsh, a senior, poured in a career-high 31 points as Class 3A third-ranked Arlington cruised past Jackson 76-26 on Feb. 3. She also had 19 points in the Eagles’ 63-51 win over Archbishop Murphy on Feb. 2.

Maddox Preder | Lake Stevens | Boys Basketball

Preder, a junior, averaged 20 points per game while helping the Vikings to a season-saving 3-0 week in Wesco 4A play. Preder had 18 points and seven assists in an 81-65 win over Jackson on Jan. 31, 25 points and six assists in a 65-61 overtime upset of Class 4A eighth-ranked Glacier Peak on Feb. 2 and 17 points in 67-61 victory over Jackson on Feb. 5.

Tyler Rhue | Stanwood | Boys Wrestling

Rhue, a junior ranked third in Class 3A at 126 pounds by Washington Wrestling Report, beat Mount Vernon’s Ryan Wilson, ranked fourth, by a 15-4 major decision to earn the 126-pound title at the Wesco 3A North Sub-Regional Tournament. Rhue also pinned Oak Harbor’s Cole Valdez, ranked seventh, in the semifinal match.

Seraphim Treperinas | Mountlake Terrace | Boys Wrestling

Treperinas, a junior ranked 10th in Class 3A at 113 pounds by Washington Wrestling Report, beat Meadowdale’s Hilmy Burch, ranked eighth, by a 10-8 decision to claim the 113-pound title at the Wesco 3A South Sub-Regional Tournament on Feb. 5.
