Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for May 1-7

The Athlete of the Week nominees for May 1-7. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with the next poll and in next Tuesday’s edition of The Herald.

Ben Hanson | Edmonds-Woodway | Boys Soccer

Hanson, a senior, scored the winning goal in overtime to help the Warriors maintain first place in Wesco 3A/2A with a 2-1 victory over Monroe on April 28. He won The Herald’s Athlete of the Week voting for April 24-30 by claiming 742 (37.6%) of 1,976 votes.

This week’s nominees

Brooke Asper | Marysville Pilchuck | Girls Tennis

Asper, a junior, earned a come-from-behind 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Meadowdale’s Katelynne Wyckoff on May 2 and finished the week 2-0 in her No. 1 singles matches for the Tomahawks.

Teagan Carroll | Marysville Getchell | Softball

Carroll, a senior, went 4-for-4 with three home runs, a double and six RBI in the Chargers’ 15-14 victory over Shorewood on May 1.

Zaire Griffin | Lynnwood | Boys Track & Field

Griffin, a sophomore, won the 100 meters, the 200, the long jump and was a part of the Royals’ victorious 4×100 relay team at the Edmonds School District Championships on May 5. He finished the 100 in a personal-best 11.10 seconds, the 200 in a personal-best 23.02 seconds and posted a mark of 20 feet in the long jump.

Peyton Lust | Everett | Girls Track & Field

Lust, a senior, won the 100 meters, the long jump and was a member of the Seagulls’ winning 4×100 relay squad at the Everett City Championships on May 5. She ran the 100 in a personal-best 13.27 seconds and finished nearly a foot in front of her nearest competitor in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 11.5 inches.

Palmer Mutcheson | Snohomish | Boys Golf

Mutcheson, a junior, fired a 7-under 65 to claim medalist honors at an eight-team Wesco 3A match on May 3 at Snohomish Golf Course.

Wyatt Queen | Lake Stevens | Baseball

Queen, a senior, pitched a three-hit shutout as the Vikings beat Woodinville 4-0 in a bi-district tournament quarterfinal game May 6.

Kincaid Sund | Edmonds-Woodway | Boys Soccer

Sund, a junior, scored the golden goal in double overtime to help the Warriors secure the Wesco 3A/2A title with a 4-3 victory over Everett on May 1.
