Vote for The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week for Oct. 25-31

The Athlete of the Week nominees for Oct. 25-31. Voting closes at midnight Sunday. The winner will be announced with next week’s poll and in next Tuesday’s paper. Each weekly winner will be included in an Athlete of the Month poll.

Cole Pruett | Monroe | Football

Pruett, a senior, hauled in a 22-yard TD pass and caught the difference-making 2-point attempt in overtime as the Bearcats’ outlasted Snohomish 42-40 and forced a three-way tie for the Wesco 3A South title. Pruett finished with five catches for 41 yards and returned one of his two interceptions on defense 79 yards for a score. He won The Herald’s Prep Athlete of the Week by claiming 846 (35.2%) of 2,407 votes.

This week’s nominees

Russell Anderson | Edmonds-Woodway | Boys tennis

Anderson, a junior, won the Class 3A District 1 singles title on Oct. 27 by beating Oak Harbor’s Ezra Franklin in the championship match.

Grace Barrett | Cascade | Girls swim and dive

Barrett swam the 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 24.09 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:22.55 for a pair of individual victories in the Bruins’ 110-54 win over Mariner on Oct. 26. Barrett also helped lead Cascade’s 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams to wins.

Ethan Farley and Blake Gettmann | Shorewood | Boys tennis

Farley, a senior, and Gettmann, a junior, beat Shorewood teammates Ben Borgida and David Lin to claim the Class 3A District 1 doubles titles on Oct. 27.

Paige Gerrard | Snohomish | Girls cross country

Gerrard, a junior, won the Class 3A District 1 championship race on Oct. 30 at Lakewood High School. She finished the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 36.1 seconds.

Steph Grimes | Meadowdale | Volleyball

Grimes, a junior, had 23 digs and five aces in the Mavericks’ 25-17, 22-25, 25-11, 25-11 win over Shorewood on Oct. 26. She added 20 digs in Meadowdale’s come-from-behind 18-25, 12-25, 25-19, 28-26, 25-10 victory over Lynnwood on Oct. 28.

Jordyn Latta | Archbishop Murphy | Girls soccer

Latta, a senior, netted two goals and added two assists in the Wildcats’ 8-0 victory over Squalicum in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A District 1 tournament on Oct. 30. She also had three assists as Archbishop Murphy beat Mountlake Terrace 7-0 in its regular-season finale on Oct. 26.

Evan Leggett | Monroe | Football

Leggett, a senior, went 2 of 2 for 93 yards and two touchdowns on a pair of trick plays and added a 20-yard TD reception as the Bearcats knocked off Ferndale 29-27 in the Wesco 3A title game on Oct. 30. His second TD pass, a 48-yarder to Cole Pruett in the fourth quarter, gave Monroe the score it needed to hold on to a tight victory.

Jayden Limar | Lake Stevens | Football

Limar, a junior, ran for 204 yards on 26 carries and had a 50-yard touchdown reception on a screen pass in the Vikings’ 34-28 win over Glacier Peak on Oct. 29. The standout running back filled in at quarterback while Lake Stevens went to a Wildcat package throughout most of the game.

Brandon Moore | Arlington | Boys cross country

Moore, a senior, won the Class 3A District 1 championship race on Oct. 30 at Lakewood High School. He ran the 5,000-meter course in a personal-best time of 15 minutes, 36.75 seconds while helping the Eagles claim the team title.
