PULLMAN — Charlie Enquist scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Washington State past Eastern Washington 75-49 on Saturday.
It was Enquist’s first career double-double.
“That’s as satisfying as it gets,” Enquist said. “I’m pretty sure every point I scored was dished off from my teammates.”
Brock Motum and Reggie Moore each added 15 points for the Cougars (4-4) while Dexter Kernich-Drew scored 10.
Enquist shot 7 for 8 from the floor and 6 for 8 from the free-throw line.
“It’s always nice to see a guy like that get rewarded,” Washington State coach Ken Bone said. “He’s a hard-worker, a great team guy. You like to see guys like that have success.”
Enquist’s performance came at the perfect time, with the Cougars’ leading scorer Faisal Aden out with a concussion and senior Abe Lodwick out with a foot/ankle injury.
Bone said Moore’s emergence as a scorer was also needed.
“We needed him to score a little more,” Bone said. “I never expected between the two of them, Charlie (Enquist) and Dexter (Kernich-Drew) to have 30 points. So I asked Reggie today at shoot-around to be more assertive, to look to score.”
Collin Chiverton led the Eagles (4-3) with 12 points and Tremayne Johnson added 11.
The Cougars broke the game open midway through the first half with a 14-0 run and outscored the Eagles 23-11 in the final 7:25 of the half to take a 41-25 lead at the break.
Washington State rolled in the second half as Enquist and Motum took control in the paint. The Cougars outscored Eastern Washington from inside 32-14 for the game.
The Cougars made 23 of 30 tries from the free-throw line.
