Tickets were moving well this week for the second running of the Resurrection Derby, Friday and Saturday, out of Friday Harbor and sponsored by the San Juan Islands Chapter, Puget Sound Anglers. This is a team event, up to four anglers per boat, with a limit of 100 boats and an entry fee of $400 per team. The derby offers $15,000 in guaranteed purse money, with a first place prize of $10,000; second place, $2,500; third, $1,500; and $1,000 for total team weight.
The San Juan Islands usually produce some of the best winter blackmouth fishing in Western Washington, and last year’s derby was a big success. First place was won by Lance Husby of Marysville for a dandy chinook of 19.29 pounds, fishing with “Team Big Kahuna.” Second place went to Greg Baylis of Mount Vernon, at 17.9 pounds, and third to Dale Nelson of Bellingham at 12.7 pounds.
Tickets were still available early this week at Holiday Sports in Burlington, 360-757-4361, For more information go to www.resurrectionderby.com.
