RENTON — Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck remains weakened in the knee by a bulging disk in his back. He has yet to pass strength tests that will allow him play for the first time in three weeks on Sunday at San Francisco.
On Monday, a day after last-place Seattle (1-5) looked inept on offense while losing 20-10 at Tampa Bay, coach Mike Holmgren said Hasselbeck’s status is a week-to-week or even day-to-day issue. Holmgren would only say the three-time Pro Bowl passer has a possibility of playing this week.
Holmgren said if Hasselbeck can’t play he isn’t sure if backup Seneca Wallace or third-stringer Charlie Frye will start. The coach was not pleased with how Wallace played against the Buccaneers.
