I think I have mentioned before on this blog that I was born and raised in Montana. I grew up rooting for the University of Montana Grizzlies, especially the Griz football team.
Of course, that means that I also grew up rooting AGAINST the Bobcats of Montana State University. The Cat-Griz football rivalry was always one of the biggest sports events of the year for me and my friends. A few of my childhood pals ended up playing for good ol’ Montana, and unfortunately a couple others played for lowly MSU.
Even though I am a Grizzly fan for life, I suppose I should give credit to a former local standout who now plays for the dreaded (just kidding … sort of) MSU Bobcats: Quarterback Mark Iddins.
Once a star QB at Kamiak High School, Iddins is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior at Montana State (2-1 Big Sky Conference, 4-2 overall). Iddins (illness) didn’t play last weekend, but in five games this season he has completed 61 percent of his passes for 954 yards and five touchdowns. Iddins will be ready for MSU’s game against Eastern Washington University this week, Kamiak football coach Dan Mack said.
By the way, the Montana Grizzlies (3-0, 6-0) are undefeated. The Cat-Griz game is on Nov. 21 in Bozeman.
