A familiar face to a lot of fans in the area will be back on a football field in Washington next week.
Former Husky and Lakes High School standout Reggie Williams, one of the best receivers in University of Washington history, will participate in the Seahawks three-day minicamp that begins Tuesday on a tryout basis.
Williams, the No. 9 overall pick in the 2004 draft, caught 189 passes for 2,322 yards in five seasons with Jacksonville, and did not play football 2009. He had career highs of 629 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2007.
In three seasons at Washington, Williams set school records for career receptions and receiving yards.
Williams’ NFL career has been marred by off-the-field problems including DWI and marijuana possession arrests that were both eventually dismissed. Last spring he was arrested for cocaine possession after an altercation with off-duty police officers at a Houston bar that led to Williams getting Tasered. Williams pled guilty to a possession charge and was sentenced to two years of deferred adjudication. If Williams successfully completes his deferred adjudication, he will not have a conviction on his record.
His relatively young age (26), local ties and a low price tag make Williams a player the Seahawks want to take a look at. despite his off-field issues. New Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is also familiar with Williams’ talents having coached against him while at USC.
