There’s still plenty of construction on area roads for drivers to contend with.
What follows is an update on various area projects:
In Mill Creek
In the city of Mill Creek itself, three major projects are at various stages.
• Main Street connector — The contractor continues progress on the Main Street connector project in front of Mill Creek City Hall and the Mill Creek Clinic. Most excavation is complete, and the Alderwood Water District has relocated some of its facilities.
This week, work began on the new curb and some asphalt was installed in parking lots. In addition, work on the road’s drainage system and block retaining walls was scheduled to begin.
The project is expected to be completed in mid-September.
• Dumas Road — The city received notification last week that the Dumas Road project plans were approved by the Washington State Department of Transportation for compliance with the requirements of the city’s federal and Transportation Improvement Board grants.
City staff met with its design consultants, KPG, on Wednesday, Aug. 18, to finalize the bid schedule for this project.
• Bothell-Everett Highway — The city says it has received several phone calls regarding a “curbing” that was installed in the center lane in front of LaPetite Academy and Les Schwab. The curbing, a traffic control device as wide as a lane stripe but functions like a median, eliminated left turns out of those two businesses.
After getting the phone calls, Mill Creek public works director Doug Jacobson asked the state to review the situation, and whether the curbing was needed.
As a result of the review, the state traffic engineers decided that the raised curbing in front of the two businesses can be removed. This work will be done by the state or its contractors in the near future.
In the county
Outside of the Mill Creek city limits, a variety of roads are subject to closures.
A full closure of North Road between 170th Place SW and 169th Place SE continues until 5 p.m. Aug. 27. The closure is being extended because Snohomish County Public Works crews are still working on rebuilding North Road in that area. Detour signs are posted.
In addition, a lane of traffic on 164th Street SW will be closed at North Road between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. until Aug. 31. Verizon Northwest is installing aerial cable in the area.
Drivers southeast of Mill Creek can expect daytime lane closures on 35th Avenue SE and 180th Street SE until Sept. 15.
One lane of traffic is being closed at the intersection so construction crews can complete grading, storm water drainage improvements, repaving and other intersection improvements.
West of Mill Creek, 3rd Avenue SE north of 156th Place SE is subject to a lane closure during the day so construction crews can install sewer, water and frontage improvements. That closure is in effect from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Oct. 4.
Drivers on 13th Drive SE south of 196th Street SE can expect a lane closure so crews can extend a sewer line. That daytime closure is in effect until Sept. 30.
