North Creek Presbyterian Church’s Katrina Action Team is forming a volunteer work team to serve in Bay St. Louis, Miss. This team will work for a period of one week, Saturday, March 3 to Saturday March 10. The team will stay at the First Presbyterian Church work camp in Bay St. Louis.

The town sits on the Bay of Saint Louis, which opens into the Mississippi Sound. The surrounding area was obliterated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005; the town itself sustained serious damage.

North Creek’s team will work with site coordinator Topher Goodenough and Rev. Richard Jones, the interim minister of First Presbyterian Church Bay St. Louis, Miss.

This will be the third such crew from North Creek Presbyterian that is heading to Bay St. Louis.

The church is looking for people who are able to work with others on a common goal, self-starters, have a sense of humor while living under difficult conditions and be able to follow prescribed safety guidelines.

The church is telling prospective members that they must be willing to walk alongside people in severe grief, and that the best thing they can do is listen and grieve with them – without offering any solutions or answers.

Other helpful skills are people with medical, mental health, construction or food preparation experience. The church, however, is welcoming all volunteers with all kinds of skills.

Cost is approximately $350 for airfare and car rental. Lodging will be provided free of charge.

For more information, or to volunteer, call the church at 425-743-2386.
