The spirit of giving at the local YWCA
The local YWCA is looking for donations for its Adopt-A-Family effort, one where the YWCA helps homeless and low-income families enrolled in its various programs.
According to Luanne Kunz, community affairs coordinator for the Everett YWCA, many of the families the YWCA helps are victims of domestic violence. Many are receiving assistance with job-search skills, job training, housing, counseling and other services.
People and businesses can help those families in a number of ways. They can adopt a family and purchase gifts for each family member; host a toy drive or giving tree; or donate food, money and grocery-store certificates.
Gifts will be collected at Pathways for Women YWCA in Lynnwood, 6027 208th St. SW, or at the Everett Regional Center in downtown Everett, 3301 Broadway.
To sign up or get more information, call Luanne Kunz at 425-258-2766 ext. 150.
Lutefisk, ya?
The Bothell Sons of Norway are hosting a lutefisk and meatball dinner at its facility in Canyon Park on Dec. 2.
Lutefisk, for those of you who are new to the area or just don’t know, is a traditional Norwegian dish made from air-dried whitefish, such as cod, soaked in a solution made from cold water and lye. The end product is a dish with the consistency of jelly that is, shall we say, rather pungent.
And no, yours truly has not eaten the stuff.
The Sons of Norway dinner also includes meatballs, boiled potatoes, cole slaw and lefse. Ice cream will be served for dessert, and beverages include a choice of coffee, tea or milk.
The dinner takes place from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Bothell Sons of Norway, 23905 Bothell-Everett Highway. Cost is $17.50 for ages 13 and up. Children 6 through 12 are $5 and children under 5 are free.
No reservations are required. For more information call 425-485-9085.
