Cookies and cream for all the canines
The first time I saw the news release about the dog ice cream social, I got visions of the owner of a cocker spaniel sitting aside a table, the dog nestled in a plush chair, munching on a bowl of cookies and cream, while the owner sat on the floor panting, begging.
Farfetched? (Pun unintended) Yes, but let’s face it, when a news release announces “an ice cream social for dogs and their people,” a hyperactive imagination can run amok.
So here’s the scoop (that pun, was intended): there is an ice cream social for dogs at Paddywack in Mill Creek Town Center from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, and it’s for a good cause: All event proceeds will benefit the Homeward Pet Shelter in Woodinville.
Ice cream from The Dining Dog in Edmonds will be served for all the pups, and Coldstone Creamery will offer ice cream for the rest of us. Coldstone’s even donating some of its sales to Homeward Pet Shelter.
In addition, Designs by Peabody, a new T-shirt line for dogs and children, will launch its product at the event. Mr. Peabody, a West Highland Terrier and inspiration for the T-shirts, will be on hand to sign “pawtographs.” The tees will be sold at the Ice Cream Social with a percentage of the profits also benefiting Homeward.
Homeward Pet Adoption Center was founded in 1990 as a no-kill, nonprofit animal shelter that provides a safe haven for orphaned cats and dogs. A representative from Homeward will be at the event with information about the shelter and adoptable dogs and cats.
Paddywack is located on Main Street between Central Market and University Book Store.
