The Foundation for the Arts in Mill Creek unveils its ninth annual “Art’s Alive!” show and sale Saturday, Oct. 23 and Sunday, Oct. 24, a two day event at the Mill Creek Country Club highlighting the work of 28 local and regional artists.

Featured artists this year include Mill Creek’s own Jonathan Tindall, who handcrafts beaded jewelry, Edmonds resident Beverly Shaw-Starkovich, who creates large landscapes using pastels and Mukilteo glass artist Steve Goodridge.

This year’s event has more than doubled in size, adding 17 artists exhibiting work in oil, acrylics, watercolor, photography, porcelain, pottery and many other mediums. Participating artists will be on hand both days and their work will be available for sale.

The Foundation for the Arts was started a decade ago by Jeanine Cyr, an active community member who died earlier this year after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Cyr’s vision, which began with a small but committed group of 10 volunteers, is today a non-profit organization with 160 members and a board of 12. In recognition of her contributions to arts in Mill Creek, the foundation established the Jeanine Cyr Scholarship a year ago. “That was her dream,” Donna Rickman, an original board member of the arts foundation, said earlier this year. “She wanted to do something for Mill Creek and give scholarships for kids.”

Art’s Alive! began as a single-day event in an office building near the Mill Creek post office. It later moved to city hall, and last year moved to the Mill Creek Country Club, and became a two-day affair. The event now includes a patron’s night before the show opens to the general public.

The foundation has also expanded its scope to put on classes in watercolor painting and photography and has sponsored field trips, where members can visit regional art hubs like the Seattle Art Museum and the Seattle Asian Art Museum.

Art’s Alive! hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 and Sunday, Oct. 24. The event takes place in the Cedar Room at the Mill Creek Country Club, located at 15500 Country Club Drive in Mill Creek. Admission and parking are free. For more information call Marlene King at 425-337-1316.
