The Archbishop Murphy baseball team moved into sole possession of first place in the Northwest A League with a pair of late inning victories over Orcas Island and Friday Harbor.
Ben Shively hit a single to center field to score Nick Karthas in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Wildcats to a 1-0 victory over the Vikings April 1 at Maltby Community Park.
Archbishop Murphy senior pitcher Kevin Smith allowed only one hit and picked up the victory.
The Wildcats (4-0 in the league, 6-0 overall) then took over first place in the league with an 8-7 eight-inning triumph over Friday Harbor April 4 at Maltby.
Junior Jeff Arkell was hit by a pitch with the bases-loaded to score teammate Patrick Ackerman.
Arkell also had a two-RBI, bases-loaded double in a three-run seventh-inning rally. Arkell was 2-for-4 with four RBI.
The victory was the Wildcats’ fourth last at-bat win this season.
